Critical Greek Text

The ESV along with most if not all the other versions that follow Westcott and Hort have a note stating “Some manuscripts insert, wholly or in part, waiting for the moving of the water; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and stirred the water: whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had“. Stick with the King James Bible!
Dr. D. A. Waite has been a friend of mine for many many years and has been a strong defender of the Greek Text underlying the King James Bible and the King James Bible itself. The Four Reasons for Defending the King James Bible booklet was “taken from a message delivered on Wednesday, July 21, 1993, at the 15th Annual Meeting of the Dean Burgon Society..” and is also a very very brief summary of Dr. Waite’s larger book Defending the King James Bible. I trust you will read carefully Dr. Waite’s defense for the English Bible that has been used of God for over four hundred years in the English speaking world.
Pastor Robert J. Barnett pastored the Calvary Baptist Church in Michigan for many many years before his retirement. He held to the preservation of the Old Testament in the Masoretic Text and the New Testament in the Greek Traditional Text. These two God preserved texts were faithfully translated into the English in the King James Bible also known as the Authorized Bible.
Pastor Barnett’s book, The Word of God on Trial, was first published in 1981. It has had three more printings with the last being in 1990. I have put this book into a pdf and trust it will be a benefit and blessing to you. Psalm 119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Ken Ham’s Answers in Genesis is pushing another “new” Critical Text Version of the Bible called the Legacy Standard Bible or LSB.https://answersingenesis.org/store/specials/lsb-bible/?mc_cid=211e8cd659&mc_eid=f63b6afe75
The New Testament Text of the LSB is nothing new for it comes form the old Westcott and Hort theory as seen on the LSB website which says “Greek Text: The Legacy Standard Bible has the benefit of a number of critical Greek texts in determining the best variant reading to translate. The 27th edition of Eberhard Nestle’s Novum Testamentum Graece, supplemented by the 28th edition in the General Epistles, serves as the base text. On every variant reading the Society of Biblical Literature GNT as well as the Tyndale House GNT were also consulted. In the end, each decision was based upon the current available manuscript evidence.” https://lsbible.org/foreword/
Without going into a long defense of the King James Bible I will simply plead that you stay with the Bible that has been around in the English language for over 400 years. The following pdf of Dr. D. A. Waite’s might be of some help to you.
These are two of the messages from the 2023 Dean Burgon Society meeting held at Bible Baptist Church, Marietta, GA.
