‘The U.K. March for Life director was recently arrested after police found her praying silently outside of an abortion clinic, according to a press release by Alliance Defending Freedom U.K.
Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, a charity volunteer and Christian, was approached by police officers on Dec. 6 outside of BPAS Robert Clinic in Birmingham, England, and asked if she was praying, according to ADF’s Tuesday press release. ‘Major corporations including Telstra and Channel 10 have declared they will not celebrate January 26 as a national holiday.
Both organisations have advised staff they can choose to work on Australia Day and nominate another day of leave instead.
Network 10 created headlines earlier this week when they advised that Australia Day was “not a day to celebrate” for Indigenous Australians and staff were therefore free to celebrate the national day on a date of their own choosing.
An email sent to Network 10 editorial staff said: “We aim to create a safe place to work where cultural differences are appreciated, understood and respected. For our First Nations people, we as an organisation acknowledge that January 26 is not a day of celebration.
“We recognise that there has been a turbulent history, particularly around that date and the recognition of that date being Australia Day. We recognise that January 26 evokes different emotions for our employees across the business, and we are receptive to employees who do not feel comfortable taking this day as a public holiday.”
Meanwhile, a Telstra spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: “Our employees have the choice to work on Australia Day or take leave on another day.”
Other organisations to follow suit include Deloitte, KPMG and EY.
A KPMG spokeswoman said the company’s “cultural leave policy” meant that staff could celebrate Australia Day on a date that was “relevant to their culture” and “beliefs”.
Various local councils around Australia have boycotted Australia Day in recent years, arguing that it does not align with their values. But the move of corporations to boycott the national day is new.
January 26 is celebrated as Australia Day because it was on that day in 1788 that the First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove and Governor Arthur Phillip raised a Union Jack flag on Australian soil.
Last week Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ditched a rule made by the Coalition government that forced councils to conduct citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day.

‘Last week, another horrifying story broke that has strong echos of the Loudoun County, Virginia, rape cover-ups. That story was then taken up by journalist Anna Slate, who got the police reports. It was heavily redacted to protect the minors in question, but the story unfolds pretty clearly.
In late October, a male student who “identifies” as a female entered a girls’ bathroom. This “transgender” student then approached two girls in the bathroom and attempted to talk to one of them. She ignored him. At one point he balled his fist and asked if she “wanted to fight.” Next thing the girl knew, he had hit her in the face, stunning her. He then pulled her by the hair to the ground, where he began to kick her in the face and punch her.
One of the girl’s friends, who had been witness to the whole incident, tried to intervene. She was afraid for the victim’s life because her attacker was “a man.” For her trouble, the male student punched her in the face twice. Other witnesses to the attack begged the assailant to stop and also claimed that the first victim had been beaten senseless. Both girls were black and blue, with at least one of them suffering a concussion.
Just why was the “transgender” student trying to get the first girl’s attention in the first place? Well, according to his statement, he was trying to “pay her back” for clothes he had apparently stolen from her.
Here is where the cover-up kicks into play. The parents of the entire school had not been informed of the incident because it happened in a bathroom and not in a more public place like the cafeteria. Edmond Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Angela Grunewald offered an excuse: “It is important that mass communication is only sent for critical events. If we sent mass communication out on all of the events that happen at a school, parents would get so many notifications they would miss any important updates.” Clearly, this incident is different. It was not just a fight amongst girls in a bathroom.
After the story broke, Dr. Grunewald went into damage control, informing the entire student body of the incident and following up with a video explanation of actions that have been taken. The attack happened in October, and parents weren’t formally informed about it until December 16. She grudgingly had to admit that this was an attack by a boy who had already been antagonizing the victim in question — which, incidentally, is against the law in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma has a law on the books stating that people must use the bathroom that aligns with their biological sex. This law went into effect in late March, before this incident. The male student would not have been permitted to enter the girls’ bathroom if the school had been enforcing the law.
