Nigeria: Militant Fulani Muslims Attack Christian Communities

‘On July 16, 2023, armed militants attacked two predominantly Christian communities in Benue state, Nigeria. The attackers arrived on motorcycles at around 8 p.m. and began shooting indiscriminately. Six people were killed in the attack.

Nigeria is geographically divided along religious lines, with a predominantly Muslim north and a majority-Christian south. Benue state, in north-central Nigeria, is mostly Christian, and believers there suffer frequent attacks by militant Fulani Muslims.

The terrorist group Boko Haram is reportedly supporting attacks on Christian villages by Islamic Fulani militia, who have concentrated their attacks in the central region of Nigeria. Terrorist groups and other Islamists in the north want to drive Christians out of the region and create a separate Islamist nation governed by Islamic law.

‘On May 12, a young female student — Deborah Samuel — in Sokoto, Nigeria was beaten to death and burned to ashes for praising Jesus on a WhatsApp group chat site. A gang of her radical Muslim classmates saw her post, became enraged, and murdered her. Deborah’s “crime?” She was accused of blasphemy against Islam and the Prophet Mohammad — a crime that calls for a death sentence according to Sharia Law.

Deborah was rejoicing online because she had successfully passed her exams at Shehu Shagari College of Education, located in northwest Nigeria. According to Open Doors, she posted, “Jesus Christ is the greatest. He helped me pass my exams.” For that message and other similar comments, she was murdered.

A gruesome video of the murder went viral on social media, causing outrage among the Christian community in Nigeria and across the world . And unfortunately, it was really nothing new. Brutal violence against Christians throughout the country has been not only commonplace for decades, but has dramatically increased in recent months. Sleepy, Creepy, Hair sniffing ‘President Joe Biden’s choice for the interim lead of the Employment and Training Administration, former Washington state Employment Security Department (ESD) Commissioner Suzi LeVine, reportedly lost $600 million in coronavirus relief funds to Nigerian scammers in her previous position. 

LeVine began her job on Monday at the federal workforce agency helping oversee unemployment benefits in the coronavirus relief packages.

The Federalist reports that LeVine’s department lost the funds to an infamous group of Nigerian scammers called “Scattered Canary” according to the U.S. Secret Service. Washington state was targeted by the “well-organized Nigerian fraud ring exploiting the COVID-19 crisis to commit large-scale fraud against state unemployment insurance programs.”

When will Australia and the United States be allowing  this? “Nigeria’s National Assembly is considering a change to the country’s constitution that would expand the scope of jurisdiction of the country’s Islamic Sharia courts of appeal. Currently, the constitution limits those appellate courts to matters concerning family law. If approved, the change would permit Sharia appellate courts to take up criminal cases, some of which carry the death penalty, arising from lower Sharia courts.
