California may be a trendsetter or bellwether in many ways, but after 10 grid alerts and emergency declarations in as many days, let’s hope that’s not the case when it comes to energy and climate policy.

Over the past two weeks, shortly after state bureaucrats finalized a regulation banning sales of gasoline-powered cars after 2035, Californians received emergency notices from the state’s regional grid operator (the “referee” responsible for grid reliability) to curtail electricity use in hopes of avoiding blackouts.

Secrecy abounds around the monster offshore wind (OSW) project proposed by Dominion Energy. In this case it is all about the threat to the severely endangered North Atlantic Right Whales.

Digging into Dominion’s filing with BOEM I found something even worse. Dominion has done an actual threat assessment but it is 100% secret! This is outrageous.

Much criticism has rightly been levelled at the many Conferences of the Parties (COPS) that have seen politicians, celebrities, royals and green activists travel to 26 annual climate conferences, with more to come. No doubt, those self-opinionated people will always want to meet at expensive locations around the world, dining in style and with many arriving by private jet to save the world from climate doom.

The United Nations Climate Change Conferences are annual meetings within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They are formal gatherings to discuss progress being made towards “addressing climate change” with the UN attempting to establish legally binding obligations from developed countries to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions. The same developed countries are asked to pay hefty “climate compensation” to developing countries that simply want that money under the guise of fighting imaginary catastrophic anthropogenic global warming…

Another day, another Ron DeSantis hit piece in a major newspaper. “Is Ron DeSantis the Future of the Republican Party?” by New York Times reporter Matt Flegenheimer is set to appear in the September 18 Sunday Magazine, posing the question: Will Florida’s governor throw his hat in the ring for president, even if Donald Trump runs as well?

After some preamble, Flegenheimer sets the scene for his long analysis, in which DeSantis comes off perversely well, despite the reporter’s attempt to paint him as a right-wing strongman.

In Orwell’s 1984, the Ministry of Plenty was quick to herald any positive statistic, however bogus. Standards of living were always rising; as was the production of food, shoelaces and ill-fitting boots. Triumphant announcements were made about the chocolate ration increasing, simultaneously that the ration was, in fact, being reduced. An example of what the Party defined as doublethink.

Winston Smith was not the only one that struggled with the irony (of course, those that did so openly were ‘vaporised’ or headed to Room 101 for re-education). All for the Greater Good.

Wind the clock forward to 2022: we’re still being told that wind and solar power is both cheap and plentiful, but at the same time we’re being bullied into not using it. Without a hint of irony.
