‘Multiculturalism is meeting reality once again as Afghan refugees are making their presence known in the countries that welcomed them, and the fun is just beginning. One place that has experienced the richness and vibrance of diversity is Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, which is a popular vacation spot. It’s easy to see why: It’s on the Yorkshire Coast in a beautiful area, and when its architecturally stunning Grand Hotel was built in 1867, it was the largest hotel in Europe. The hotel still boasts numerous attractions. It is described on Tripadvisor as “one of the town’s landmark features and instantly recognisable on the skyline,” taking “pride of place overlooking the town’s harbour and South Bay.” The description continues: “Our location is ideal in Scarborough from which to enjoy beautiful sandy beaches, promenade walks and all that Scarborough has to offer, all within a short stroll away. LIVE entertainment is available every night with our dazzling cabaret shows featuring professional dancers and entertainers dressed in stunning costumes.” A newer feature of the hotel, however, 200 Afghan evacuees, has quickly changed perceptions of the hotel. The staff, when confronted with complaints, called the complainers “racist.” But that’s an all-purpose objection nowadays, so frequently employed as to be emptied of all meaning. It’s clear that hotel guests at the Grand Hotel had plenty to complain about.
One of the hotel’s recent guests wrote:
Stayed in the hotel while working away contracting in East Yorkshire
I caught scabies and can only presume it was from this filthy hell hole
Also caught a man deficating [sic] into a carrier bag !
What the hell is going on in this hotel.
I would not stay ever again!!

As revolting as it is, that bit about the carrier bag shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Wall Street Journal recently noted that new Afghan arrivals at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin were “confused and upset by hygiene practices. Every toilet on base was Western style, with a seat and toilet paper. But a number of Afghans are accustomed to restrooms that allow them to squat so they don’t have to physically touch the toilet. This is unbelievable that this even occured but the Fake Leftist President is in the WH! ‘A Wisconsin judge has suspended a Biden administration program that funneled debt relief exclusively to nonwhite farmers after the program was the target of a lawsuit by a conservative group and a coalition of farmers.
Judge William Griesbach of Wisconsin’s Eastern District issued the temporary stay Thursday following a lawsuit filed in April by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty.
The court “recognized that the federal government’s plan to condition and allocate benefits on the basis of race raises grave constitutional concerns and threatens our clients with irreparable harm,” Rick Esenberg, president and general counsel for the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The Wisconsin nonprofit is representing a dozen farmers in several states in the suit.

When are ‘feelings’ more important than history?
‘At the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a 70-ton boulder named Chamberlin Rock — in honor of Thomas Crowder Chamberlin, a geologist and former university president, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
But on Oct. 9, 1925, the Wisconsin State Journal printed a story about the process of digging up the boulder — and it was referred to in the story as a “n*****head,” which was a commonly used expression in the 1920s to describe any large dark rock, the paper said.
It’s unclear if or for how long the boulder was called that racist name, the Journal said, adding that the term itself appeared to fade from common usage by the 1950s. In addition, the paper said university historians identified the news story as the only known instance of the offensive term being used.
Fast forward to 2020
But in the wake of George Floyd’s death in May and the nationwide protests and rioting that followed — including the tearing down and demands for removal of statues and monuments with any connection to racism — the Wisconsin Black Student Union followed suit over the summer and called for the removal of Chamberlin Rock, the Journal said.
Blank has previously indicated she supports the rock’s removal, the Journal added, although a timeline for such a project hasn’t been established.
UW’s Black Student Union President Nalah McWhorter said the boulder is a symbol of daily injustices students of color face on the predominantly white campus, the paper said.
“This is a huge accomplishment for us,” she told the Journal on Wednesday. “We won’t have that constant reminder, that symbol that we don’t belong here.”
Kacie Butcher, the university’s public history project director, said there was a Ku Klux Klan presence throughout Madison in the 1920s and on-campus minstrel shows, the Capital Times reported.
“That racism hasn’t left campus. It’s just changed, and this rock … is a symbol of this ongoing harm,” Butcher said, according to the Times. “We have a real opportunity here to prioritize students of color and their experiences — something we haven’t really done historically — and this is an opportunity for us not to trivialize these demands, but instead truly engage in these really complex conversations.”
Now what?
