‘A 37-year-old journalist may face five years in prison in China for spreading ‘misinformation’ about the government’s response to the virus, The Guardian has reported.
Zhang Zhan, was arrested over six months ago for “picking quarrels and stirring up trouble” and is currently detained in Shanghai.
Zhan is being detained in China along with numerous other journalists, all in government custody for reporting on the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan.
China is indicting Zhan on several counts, including sending “false information through text, video and other media such as WeChat, Twitter and Youtube,” and “[accepting] interviews from overseas media Free Radio Asia and Epoch Times,” according to the official prosecution papers.
Zhan is also accused of “maliciously [speculating] on Wuhan’s Covid-19 epidemic,” likely referring to her vocalized skepticism of China’s official Covid-19 numbers.
Alongside these indictments, Zhan exposed various detentions of other journalists who were attempting to report on the coronavirus in Wuhan, according to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD).

Crooks usually wear masks so as not to be identified. Therefore, it is not a surprise that ‘During Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Ron Klain, former Vice President Joe Biden’s pick to be White House chief of staff, signaled a nationwide mask mandate would be forthcoming in a new Biden administration.
Klain argued in the meantime that state governments should impose mask mandates.

‘Richard Stengel, the head of the Joe Biden transition team for US state media outlets, is an outspoken supporter of “hate speech” laws, social media censorship, and other means that restrict or editorialize people’s speech.
Stengel was recently named on the Biden transition website as team lead for the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) – a US government-owned agency that’s responsible for operating several state-owned media outlets which include Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
USAGM also funds the Open Technology Fund which describes its mission as “support open technologies and communities that increase free expression, circumvent censorship, and obstruct repressive surveillance as a way to promote human rights and open societies.”
Yet Stengel’s past statements and roles show that he has a history of advocating for the suppression of speech based on censorship buzzwords such as hate speech, “disinformation,” and “misinformation.”
In 2019, Stengel wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post titled “Why America needs a hate speech law.” In the article, Stengel suggests that hate speech “undermines the values that the First Amendment was designed to protect” and calls for states to “experiment with their own version of hate speech statutes to penalize speech that deliberately insults people based on religion, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.”
Stengel has also claimed that several of the President’s statements are hate speech and tweeted that if America were to adopt a hate speech law, “the President might be in violation of it.”

Those people Biden has chosen for positions in his wanna be administration are Leftist/communist/globalists and are out to destroy the middle class and kill the elderly. As to the latter ‘Older Americans, the ones most vulnerable to COVID-19, should be the last in line to receive a vaccine when it becomes available, according to an argument put forth by one of Joe Biden’s top health advisers.
The Federalist reports Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, who serves on Biden’s coronavirus task force, seemed to suggest in a September article that Americans over 75 should wait for the vaccine out of “fairness” to the rest of the world.
Emanuel, who also was an adviser to the Obama administration, has faced criticism for years for promoting ageist arguments. A bioethicist at the University of Pennsylvania, he wrote an article about how he wants to die by age 75 because life is not worth living past that point. He suggested other older Americans should consider “whether our consumption is worth our contribution.” He also wrote a piece in the New York Times encouraging Americans to “Skip Your Annual Physical.”
Now, he appears to be promoting a plan that would deny the coronavirus vaccine to those most vulnerable to die from the virus: elderly Americans. A vaccine could be available within the next several months after two companies announced final testing on a coronavirus vaccine this fall.
According to The Federalist:
In a Science article in September, in which Emanuel argued for distributing vaccine doses overseas out of “fairness” and argued against “vaccine nationalism” in which countries kept “too much” of the vaccine for themselves, he wrote, “we propose using Standard Expected Years of Life Lost (SEYLL) averted per dose of vaccine as the metric for premature death.”
This method renders the lives of people who have already lived beyond their country’s life expectancy as valueless. In the CDC’s definition, the cut-off is even sooner: only deaths occurring before age 75 are deemed “premature” and counted towards “years of potential life lost.” Yes, the very vaccine priority model Emanuel proposes would exclude those over age 75 from receiving a COVID vaccine, at least until availability is widespread and no shortages exist, globally.

For decades, the United States has pressured former rogue nations that want to be taken seriously by telling them, “You must have fair and transparent elections. That is how you get taken seriously as a country. We would like to monitor your upcoming election.”
We tell them that U.S. observers will examine ballot security measures to ensure that ballots are going to citizens of their country and that each citizen is getting one and not multiple ballots.
We tell them that U.S. observers want to be at the ballot counting locations and that we want to see that representatives of all parties are able to observe the counting process.
And we tell them that we want to watch the reporting process from the central election authority so we can ensure that ballots are secured from the time they are counted to the time the results are reported.
Under the criteria we have used to judge other countries, we have not met our own obligation for free and fair elections in city after city that is run by left-wing socialist Democrats. That should bring a sense of outrage and shame to all Americans.
The State Department should say we will no longer send representatives to judge other countries because Democrats just proved we are incapable of upholding the standards we expect of other nations.
Time for Unity?
There is a growing chorus of commentators, Democrats, Biden campaign aides, and even some Republicans who were AWOL the last four years, saying to President Trump that it is time to stop the partisanship and bring the country together.
I understand why the left and its media allies say that. But hearing Republicans, such as Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, say that is infuriating. Do they not remember what happened four years ago?
The left spent the past four years refusing to accept the results of the 2016 elections!
Rather than help unify the country, it formed the “Resistance.” It screamed at the sky. It boycotted Trump’s inauguration. It rioted during the inauguration. It accused the president of being a traitor and a Russian asset. It impeached the president over a phone call.
Adam Schiff went on TV time and again and declared that the “evidence of collusion is in plain sight.” He never apologized for that lie and his part in the country never coming together these last four years.

They are impossibly mired in lies and hatred, but they have at times been oddly forthright about their plans, such as when Nancy Pelosi declared that Trump would lead at the end of election night but would not win, and when the New York Times claimed that the media would declare the winner of the presidential election, just as it is doing now. So when so many prominent Leftists are calling for the reeducation of Trump supporters or else their total ostracism from society, no one would be wise to dismiss these calls as empty threats.
As PJ Media noted on October 21, Bill Clinton’s Labor Secretary Robert B. “Third” Reich got the ball rolling when he tweeted: “When this nightmare is over, we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It would erase Trump’s lies, comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness, and name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe.”
It quickly became clear that this wasn’t just Reich’s individual lust for Maoism, as numerous others quickly echoed him. Recalling Stalin’s practice of putting his political opponents in mental hospitals, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes couched his call in humanitarian terms: “The most humane and reasonable way to deal with all these people, if we survive this, is some kind of truth and reconciliation commission.”
Neocon Never-Trumper William Kristol, out for blood, then exposed the vengeful core of all this when he responded to Hayes with, “How about truth and no reconciliation?” Sarah Taylor, a professor at Cal East Bay, was likewise in no mood for forgiveness: “What we need is more along the lines of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Empathy at this point would be completely counterproductive – it would exacerbate the harms that have already been done.”
As is typical of the Left, these hate-filled ideologues projected their hatred onto their prospective victims. Wajahat Ali, an op-ed writer for the New York Times, offered the media-anointed president-elect some unsolicited advice: “Biden/Harris needs to establish a war room just for media and messaging. You have treat [sic] the Republican Party and right wing media as the increasingly extremist group that they are. Biden has to heal the nation, court the voters, but the right wing movement is hostile.”
Yes, as Antifa and Black Lives Matter burn down cities, it’s the “right wing movement” that is “hostile.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Lubyanka Prison) predicted what would be the fate of the “hostile” — professional and personal ruin: “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? News has it that ‘Hong Kong’s legislature has today moved one step closer to becoming a local branch of the Chinese Communist Party, after the disqualification of four of the most moderate, mainstream pro-democracy legislators resulted in the resignation en masse of every single pro-democracy legislator in protest.
For the first time since 1997 the body now has no pro-democracy voices, marking yet another nail in the coffin of ‘one country, two systems.’
The four legislators who were ousted by Beijing – Alvin Yeung, Kwok Ka-ki, Dennis Kwok and Kenneth Leung – are hardly radical pro-independence activists. As lawyers and accountants, for years they have represented the pro-democracy establishment, working within the system to protect the rule of law, due process and autonomy Hong Kong was promised in the Sino-British Joint Declaration.
The decision by the rest of the pro-democracy legislators to resign in protest at their ousting is courageous and right. It is a tragedy it has come to this, but they clearly could not continue to work in a legislature that is rapidly becoming a mouthpiece for the Chinese regime. In taking this dramatic step today, they have not walked out or abandoned their duties as representatives of the people – it is Beijing that has forced them out.
The removal of the four pro-democracy lawmakers took place after the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in Beijing ruled that:
‘lawmakers should be disqualified if they support Hong Kong independence, refuse to acknowledge China’s sovereignty, ask foreign forces to interfere in the city’s affairs or in other ways threaten national security.’
This arbitrary and vaguely-worded edict represents a grave violation of the city’s autonomy and Basic Law (the territory’s mini-constitution). In the same way that Beijing imposed the national security law on Hong Kong in July, this decree directly threatens due process and the rule of law in Hong Kong.
Every legislator who has ever talked to a foreign parliamentarian, journalist or activist could fall foul of Beijing’s new measure, which bans legislators from asking ‘foreign forces to interfere’ – a truly ridiculous situation. And now that there is no opposition in the legislature, judicial independence will likely be next in Beijing’s sights.
A week ago Xi Jinping’s regime published its 14th five-year plan, in which it proposes ‘comprehensive jurisdiction’ over Hong Kong by 2025. In other words, direct rule. The five-year plan emphasises the need to ‘implement the central government’s comprehensive jurisdiction over the two [cities], as well as their legal systems and enforcement mechanisms.’ In the end it only took Beijing a week to further the implementation process with the removal of Hong Kong’s parliamentarians.
The British government must lead the international community in a robust outcry against this move. Not only has Beijing torn up its international agreement with Britain – an act which calls into question its reliability when it comes to any other treaty it has signed – but it now directly threatens the viability of Hong Kong as an international financial and trading centre. Now that we are seeing lawyers and accountants being kicked out of the legislature at Beijing’s instruction today, what is the future for the city’s lawyers, accountants, and professionals? Those who uphold transparency or challenge corruption could simply disappear, as they do in the mainland.
In response, the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab should establish an international group of like-minded allies to coordinate a global response to the emasculation of Hong Kong. That should include the imposition of targeted sanctions against officials in the Chinese and Hong Kong governments for breaches of international law. It should also include efforts at the United Nations, to establish a mechanism to monitor and report on human rights violations. And the UK should encourage others to offer a lifeboat rescue package, to offer those who now wish to flee Hong Kong a place of sanctuary.
Britain should lead, but the response should be multilateral. The free world must stand together. This is no longer only about Hong Kong – it is about freedom itself. A global response is more likely to have some effect on Beijing and a failure to stand together will mean Beijing will try to pick us off one by one.
Britain’s response to the imposition of the national security law in July was generous and bold. The offer of a pathway to citizenship to British National Overseas (BNO) status holders from Hong Kong was truly historic and very welcome. Now is the time for a similarly bold response. ‘Approximately half the country has concerns about how vote counting was conducted in a number of the most important swing states. Lack of transparency, computer glitches and (quite possibly) some old-fashioned fraud will keep us in suspense for the next few weeks. As they say, let’s hope every legal vote is counted.
Should Biden/Harris be certified the winner, things are going to change in a hurry — and flyover America’s 72.3 million deplorables will be in for a rough ride. Accordingly, in the realm of what I was taught in law school (always prepare for the worst), here are a few warnings for the Trump army:
For Religious Conservatives
A “dark winter” awaits — and nuns forced to pay for birth control is only the half of it. Religious freedom was on the ballot, and it lost. Now, religious conviction is at serious risk as disproportionately influential secular progressives press their advantage within the progressive movement.
For Free Speech Advocates
Look for campus-style “speech codes” coming to the private sector and increased repression of speech on the grounds of our colleges and universities. The long-term trend in support of our First Amendment freedoms is not a good one. Throw in the propensity of Big Tech to tilt the (speech) playing field and the failure of traditional liberals to join the free speech campaign, and we are confronted with a real cultural crisis.
For American History Buffs
The “1619 Project” just trumped the “1776 Project.” Parents must now take the initiative. Your child’s education is at risk. As more parents become active in turning back the woke tide in school board politics, it is well and good to recall the wisdom of President Ronald Reagan: “We’ve got to teach history based on not what’s in fashion but what’s important. If we forget what we did, we won’t know who we are.” Wow.
For African-American Trump Supporters
Your road just got more difficult. Expect the usual intolerance from the progressive left: “race traitor,” “sellout,” “token,” etc. Your best defense: Donald J. Trump’s record on minority empowerment. It has been outstanding. Reference it and defend it.
For Disenfranchised Young Conservatives
No warm cookies, crying sessions, group hugs, or days off for you. Your campuses are chock-full of snowflakes, those intolerant purveyors of identity politics. Time to organize, engage and prepare for 2022.
Remember, there are plenty of freedom-based nonprofits ready, willing and able to provide advice and protection. Be less bashful about voicing dissent. Liberal schools bank on your silent acquiescence.
For the Parents of Young Conservatives
It is long past time to rethink your annual giving contributions to schools that refuse to guarantee philosophical and ideological diversity within their faculties. Stopping the dollar spigot is about the only way to get their attention. Do it: It’s easier than you think.
For Discouraged Immigrants from Socialist Countries
Time to engage with young people. Most young Americans have no idea what socialism does to the human spirit. You have done an effective job of spreading the message in South Florida and South Texas. It is now time to spread your wings to other venues — especially our college campuses.
For GOP NeverTrumpers
Congratulations — you were an essential part of the Biden coalition. Your Lincoln Project raised a reported $67 million. You accordingly have ownership of what will now unfold; no backtracking for you. Just sayin’.
For Disappointed Blue-Collar Union Workers
It is long past time to make the party switch. Your parents and grandparents will assuredly forgive you. After all, the Democratic Party left you, not the other way around. A likely GOP Senate will kill the worst inclinations of the Bernie/Elizabeth crowd. Still, odds are that the people who will now regulate your business have never spent a day in the private sector. But, rest assured, they know what is best for you and your bottom line.
