I and my wife spent fourteen years with the Independent Baptist mission agency (Association of Baptists for World Evangelism ABWE). My wife and I went back to the states having sent ABWE’s president, Wendell Kempton, our resignation but instead of allowing us to resign we were “terminated” without ever being told why. However, in our hearts we knew it was because they thought we knew what was happening in Bangladesh and they believed termination could forfeit anything we might say concerning the Bangladesh situation. Today ABWE has a whole different administration from those who attempted to assassinate our ministry but the organization has not changed. If you are so inclined you may read more about ABWE at https://sadsaga.wordpress.com/.
Ones heart should be broken with what the IFB churches and organizations have become. However, it should not really come as a shock. Way back in the 70’s I attended a Baptist Bible Fellowship (BBF) church to hear Jack Hyles for the fist time. Hyles told a lot of stories and one he told has stayed with me all these years. He told, and I am paraphrasing this from memory, how his deacons were so faithful to him that if he told them next Sunday the church would be Episcopalian they would accept that! I was amazed he would say such a thing especially at a meeting of IFB preachers! I never went to hear Jack Hyles again! Now, even though Hyles is no longer with us his students are! The following article on the IFB in Canada is a legacy of Hyles. The Good Ole Boy’s Club is the same whether it is secular or religious.
