That the West has become weak and silly, is best exemplified by its concerted efforts to wreck hitherto reliable and affordable energy supplies. While policy wonks will argue forever about the precise casus belli for Putin’s attack on Ukraine, it is unarguable that Europe’s insatiable demand for Russian oil and gas has allowed Putin to hold wind and solar obsessed Europe to ransom. His swagger and belligerence rests on the confidence that, without Russian oil and gas, Europe would grind to a halt, very quickly.

Hence, he has little to fear from Germany entering the fray; all he needs do is turn off the tap and he will cripple Germany, within a week.

Not so long ago, the Germans had an enviable fleet of coal-fired and nuclear power plants, which provided them with abundant electricity, whatever the weather. Not so, now.

With exquisite timing, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has seized the opportunity of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to warn of impending doom – not from Putin’s putting Russia’s nuclear forces on high alert, but from countries failing to reduce their carbon emissions.

“Climate change is killing people,” said Helen Adams of Kings College London, who co-authored the UN’s latest climate report, released four days after Russian tanks backed by missiles and helicopter gunships opened fire on both Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. “Today’s IPCC report is an atlas of human suffering and a damning indictment of failed climate leadership,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement. “With fact upon fact, this report reveals how people and the planet are being clobbered by climate change.”

No one can ever claim that the notion of Trump-Russia collusion and the Mueller investigation were downplayed or ignored by the press. It was the opposite. The story was enormous and incessant.

On February 12, the conservative media reported a “bombshell.” Well, the term “bombshell” is almost copyrighted as a journalism term for “Republican scandal deepener.”

Special counsel John Durham, tasked with investigating the origins of the FBI’s probe into Trump and Russia, reported a client for Hillary’s law firm Perkins Coie was monitoring internet traffic at Trump Tower, Trump’s Central Park West apartment building, and the Executive Office of the President. They wanted information to sell a “narrative” of Trump-Russia…

Giant lithium-ion batteries are said to be the panacea for the hopeless intermittency of wind and solar; they’re also said to be the backbone for an all-Electric Vehicle future.

Neither proposition stands a moment’s scrutiny.

The true cost of energy storage using lithium-ion batteries is phenomenal, such that it will never match the scale needed to compensate for the erratic and occasional delivery of wind and solar.

The hefty cost of the latest EVs equipped with sufficient battery capacity to drive further than the local shops, puts them out of reach for all but hotshot lawyers and merchant bankers. The fact that the materials required for lithium-ion batteries involves stripmining the poorest parts of the Third World doesn’t appear trouble the EV aficionado.

You are built almost entirely out of carbon dioxide and water. So is all the food you eat. Likewise for all the energy you use moving about and staying alive. Carbon dioxide and water! In short the carbon dioxide in the air is the global food supply. This is why all life on Earth is said to be “carbon based”.
