The world’s first Assistant Health and Human Services Secretary to be considered a woman (even though he’s a biological man), Dr. Rachel Levine, now has the honor of being called one of USA TODAY’s Women of the Year.

Today, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) divesting in fossil fuels are all the rage on Wall Street these days to divest in all 3 fossil fuels of coal, natural gas, and crude oil, just to reduce emissions. Both President Biden and the United Nations support allowing banks and investment giants to collude to reshape economies and our energy infrastructure.

A group supported and promoted by the United Nations, the Principals of Responsible Investment (PRI), reported 4,721 signatories from more than 135 countries had signed PRI. Collectively, these businesses, investors, and investment management firms control more than $100 trillion in assets. The PRI pact emphasizes the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures and sponsors pressuring companies into ESG implementation.

Giant lithium-ion batteries are said to be the saviour of intermittent wind and solar. But their pesky habit of exploding into toxic fireballs suggests that they’re not really part of the ‘inevitable transition’ team, after all.

The notion is that giant lithium-ion batteries will quell the power delivery chaos that comes with attempting to rely on wholly weather-dependent wind power and wholly sunshine-dependent solar power; thereby bringing stability and security to plenty a power grid teetering on the brink of collapse, all the consequence of our “inevitable transition” away from reliable and dependable power generation sources, like coal and gas.

But there’s nothing ‘stable and secure’ about lithium batteries.

That the West has become weak and silly, is best exemplified by its concerted efforts to wreck hitherto reliable and affordable energy supplies. While policy wonks will argue forever about the precise casus belli for Putin’s attack on Ukraine, it is unarguable that Europe’s insatiable demand for Russian oil and gas has allowed Putin to hold wind and solar obsessed Europe to ransom. His swagger and belligerence rests on the confidence that, without Russian oil and gas, Europe would grind to a halt, very quickly.

Hence, he has little to fear from Germany entering the fray; all he needs do is turn off the tap and he will cripple Germany, within a week.

Not so long ago, the Germans had an enviable fleet of coal-fired and nuclear power plants, which provided them with abundant electricity, whatever the weather. Not so, now.

With exquisite timing, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has seized the opportunity of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to warn of impending doom – not from Putin’s putting Russia’s nuclear forces on high alert, but from countries failing to reduce their carbon emissions.

“Climate change is killing people,” said Helen Adams of Kings College London, who co-authored the UN’s latest climate report, released four days after Russian tanks backed by missiles and helicopter gunships opened fire on both Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. “Today’s IPCC report is an atlas of human suffering and a damning indictment of failed climate leadership,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement. “With fact upon fact, this report reveals how people and the planet are being clobbered by climate change.”
