Today, the NSW Legislative Assembly began debating the Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019. The proposed law would give our state one of the most permissive abortion laws in the world. A marathon debate on the Bill has begun in the Legislative Assembly. MPs are bunkering down for a long night.
The Bill is radical. It will allow abortion without limitations up to 22 weeks (a little over 5 months).
After 22 weeks, abortion will be permitted until birth, provided two doctors consider the “current and future physical, psychological and social circumstances” of the mother. This is late term abortion on demand, of viable babies who could live outside the womb if delivered at that stage.
The Bill removes freedom of conscience for health practitioners. Pro-life doctors will be obliged to refer a patient seeking an abortion to a doctor who will perform the abortion.
