Mark Latham is a New South Wales member of state Parliament and is one of the few pollies that seems to care for the nation. He wrote that Prime Minister ‘Scott Morrison is a fool if he thinks changing one word in the national anthem is going to pacify the noisy minority driving these attacks on Australia. Just watch the ‘Invasion Day’ idiots on 26 January calling for Australia to be burnt to the ground, as they do every year. Overnight Morrison has changed the words ‘young and free’ to ‘one and free’ – with all the problems Australia faces, that’s his priority for 2021. Not job creation, but anthem fiddling .In fact, we are a young nation, federated in 1901. Before that, we were a series of colonies and before that, 170 (often warring) Aboriginal tribes. The Indigenous had no concept of the nation state and were never a nation themselves. The nation’s anthem, a sacred item, should not have been changed without proper consultation with the nation’s people. Politicians who use the power to lock families in their homes start to think that any dictatorial decision is possible. That’s Scott Morrison unfortunately. What other changes to our national symbols does he have in mind, without telling the Australian people? The first rule for the Prime Minister should be: don’t cave in and pacify the mob who hate Australia. It only encourages them to stamp their feet and demand more changes. The rugby league player Latrell Mitchell, for instance, objects to the words ‘girt by sea’ in the anthem, saying it means ‘invasion by sea’ (it actually means ‘surrounded by sea’).So these are dumb radicals and today, Morrison has empowered them at the expense of Australians who love their country and love the anthem as it was. Shame on him.’https://www.facebook.com/MarkLathamsOutsiders/?ref=page_internal
We’ll see how the change to these three words make Australia Day on January 26, 2021 any better!
