I have always found it interesting that the climate change scammers seek to tell me what it will be in fifty to one hundred years but cannot tell me within 80 to 95% what the weather will be next week. Oh well, it is true we climate skeptics do ‘…often make sport of the ever-shifting and opportunistic definition of “climate” as opposed to “weather”, by which any unusually warm or stormy events are portents of climate whereas, say, a string of blizzards in May is just the meaningless vagaries of weather. Recently a kind adult patted us on the head and explained that we were ignorant of the scientific basis of the difference. To aid in our education they provided a link to a NASA page wherein there is enough hand-waving to power the next Apollo mission. It declares that: “The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere ‘behaves’ over relatively long periods of time.” All of which says precisely nothing, which is why the definitions keep changing depending on the day’s weather. The China virus is the least of these three young Chinese people’s worries.
‘(Beijing—May 12, 2020) Three young people vanished in mid-April. Two are now understood to be in custody.
The three are named Cai Wei, Chen Mei, and Xiao Tang. Cai and Chen were both involved with a website called “Ruidian Star.” It is known to fight internet blocking and censorship and backs up deleted articles from Chinese social media platforms.
Xiao and Cai rent an apartment together.
Each was taken away on April 19.
Cai and Xiao’s families both received notices that they have been placed under “designated surveillance.” Cai has been charged with provoking trouble.
A police officer whose surname is Liu said Cai’s family did not have to worry about his being abused in prison, as other activists have been. Liu claimed Cai is currently fine.
Cai’s attorney attempted to contact Liu again, but could not get through. She went to see the authorities in person but could not get any more answers. Finally, she applied to the Chaoyang District Procuratorate, asking officials there to supervise the investigation.
Xiao’s lawyer and family have also been trying to contact the police, hoping to get more information. So far, no one has responded.

In China, ‘A retired professor was arrested for speaking about COVID-19.
ChinaAid reports that the man, Chen Zhaozhi, accused the Chinese Communist Party for spreading the virus. As a result, he was charged with provocation, and officials said he spread false information on the internet.
A lawyer who met with Chen at the Haidian Detention Center said his client’s family applied to bail him out. The authorities refused their request. In the meantime, the legal process against Chen has begun. The case is expected to be transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution in June.
Chen suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and low blood pressure and relies on medication to maintain his health. According to the attorney, he is not in a good mental state.
One supporter said, “According to [official] routine, if one has dementia, the authorities are to reduce or remit the punishment … he might be sent to a mental hospital. [I think this because] I had a similar, previous experience.”
Chen had a prior encounter with officials when he protested the funeral of former Chinese Communist Party leader Li Peng. Raising his fist in the air, he shouted slogans, such as, “Down with Li Peng!” Police then arrested and beat him.

Earlier this month, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city would be delivering 500,000 free meals to Muslims during the month of Ramadan.
“One of Ramadan’s most noble callings is to feed the hungry,” de Blasio said.
Still, when Rima Begum opened the iftar meal she received from the city, she recoiled in disgust. Oozing from a sealed silver bag was a mush of corn, chicken and potatoes.
“It reminded me of how when I was a kid you would learn about astronaut food,” Begum told Middle East Eye. “I wouldn’t eat this; I wouldn’t give this to my family,” she said.
De Blasio had said that 400,000 halal meals would be distributed at 32 Department of Education buildings and another 100,000 served through various community organisations during the holy month.
The meals being distributed directly from the city are available at 32 grab-and-go sites, and for those that cannot pick up the meals in-person, they are delivered through the NYC Food Delivery Assistance programme.
It was through this delivery programme that Begum received what she described as a “pile of goop”.
“We’d like transparency on how the city government procures food for both their Get Food NYC program and NYC Food Assistance,” Thahitun Mariam, a community organiser in Bronx, New York, told MEE.
When it came to meals distributed through community organisations, there was a different picture.
Linda Sarsour, a community activist and former executive director at the Arab American Association of New York, said that the meals distributed through AAANY came directly from the city and were of good quality.
It is the difference in food sourcing that has caused concerns among New York residents and community activists.

It is a lack of representation, even at the local level, that causes problems such as this, Moumita Ahmed said.
Ahmed, who is running for district leader for New York’s Assembly District 24, said that some of the meals were “disrespectful” and a waste of taxpayer money….
She pointed out that the money spent on these meals could have gone to local restaurants that have been providing meals for Muslims during Ramadan for years.
“Our communities deserve better. Our communities deserve more than just goop in a plate,” Ahmed told MEE.
“We are the richest country and the richest state on the planet.
