Most people are familiar with the idea of six degrees of separation—that everyone on the planet is separated by only six relationships. I want to introduce you to the idea of “70 degrees of connection”. In today’s world we all desire a comfortable temperature of about 70 degrees most of the time. People talk about climate change, but the desire for a 70-degree personal space—safely separated from the elements that endanger us—is a dominant force in our lives.

We are not comfortable here on earth unless we have everything right. Right angles, smooth surfaces, the right temperature. And we have easy access to it in the modern world. Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Christopher Rufo dropped a bombshell exposing a major U.S. defense contractor’s mission to shame its white employees and enforce critical race theory.

Rufostated on Twitter July 6 that Raytheon Technologies “has launched a critical race theory program that encourages white employees to confront their ‘privilege,’ reject the principle of ‘equality,’ and ‘defund the police.’” Rufo posted purported pictures of internal Raytheon documents that appear to expose the company’s woke policies.

He said the company had asked “white employees to deconstruct their identities and ‘identify [their] privilege.’” He continued: “The company argues that white, straight, Christian men are at the top of the oppression hierarchy—and must work on ‘recognizing [their] privilege’ and ‘step aside’ for minorities.”

Rufo noted how Raytheon even “encourage[d] white employees to ‘defund the police,’ ‘participate in reparations,’ ‘decolonize your bookshelf,’ ‘join a local “white space.”’”

One of the most hyped innovations of our life time is today’s electric vehicle. While our federal government and the state of California think the internal combustion engine will soon end in the dustbin of history, it just ain’t so. It will never happen for many obvious reasons that governments are blind to.

The most obvious one is that their expense will not allow the average American to own one. The alternative will always be significantly cheaper and will transport you much farther.

EVs can never be produced in the numbers the government wants because of a lack of necessary rare earth minerals held hostage in China.

Availability of charging stations will not ever be adequate. The time required to recharge on a long trip will make you cancel the long trip.

The cost of a battery replacement will be a turn off. Okay maybe…

Sucking up to China to protect its lucrative cash flow, Nike’s CEO says the American company’s brand is just doing it for China. The Swoosh is now figuratively intertwined with yellow stars on the red Chi-com flag.

Nike chief executive John Donahoe not only defended his woke Oregon-based company’s ties to China, but he also affirmed its competitive advantage in the Asian dictatorship, despite China’s notorious reputation for forced labor in the manufacturing of sports apparel.

“Nike is a brand that is of China and for China,” Donahoe unashamedly and unapologetically said.

Yahoo sports-writer Caroline Downey reported that Donahoe joined Nike in 2020 and has spent much time scoping out its operations in China. Greasing the skids with China, Donahoe said the company’s “biggest asset is consumer equity [in the brand]  … it’s real, I saw it in my first week on the job.”

A front-page story from Sunday’s New York Times, “Biden’s Push for Racial Equity Hits Legal and Political Snags,” opened and closed with affecting stories of hardship under sympathetic headlines. The story virtually ignored the central reality of racial discrimination within Biden’s “American Rescue Plan.” A program offering debt relief to black farmers only is also under scrutiny.

At least this time the Times is using the correct terminology — “equity,” not “equality” — and didn’t try to sneak the radical proposition of “equity” under the more benign auspices of “equality.” “Equality” advocates for equal treatment going forward, while an “equity” policy tries to make up for past discrimination by divvying out resources in discriminatory fashion.

Yet the story from reporters Michael Shear, Stacy Cowley, and Alan Rappeport offered no condemnation of the Biden administration’s flaunting the Supreme Court’s deep disdain for race-based legislation, or the administration’s defeats in…

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air reports that Rick Edmonds of the Poynter Institute, the parent organization of PolitiFact and “mainstream” media think tank, is disturbed at the latest evidence that Americans don’t trust the “mainstream” media — because it’s not. It’s been “reporting” on America like it was under a dangerous threat of a fascist coup for four years, democracy always in danger of “dying in darkness.”

The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries, a report released Wednesday found. That’s worse than Poland, worse than the Philippines, worse than Peru. (Finland leads at 65%.)

The annual digital news report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford also found some improvement in trust in nearly all the countries surveyed — probably thanks to COVID-19 coverage — but not in the U.S…
