This climate scam is out to destroy not only the economy but to eliminate people! In a Jan. 25 meeting of the Vermont Climate Council, Massachusetts Undersecretary for Climate Change David Ismay blurted out “let me say that again, 60% of our emissions that need to be reduced come from you, the person across the street, the senior on fixed income, right… there is no bad guy left, at least in Massachusetts to point the finger at, to turn the screws on, and you know, to break their will, so they stop emitting. That’s you. We have to break your will. Right, I can’t even say that publicly….” Except he just did. So don’t say you weren’t warned: These people are looking for a 60% reduction in ordinary-life emissions. And of the ordinary-life energy that causes them.
Beginning with cars, of course. The New York Times “Climate Fwd.” says various car companies bending to the wind blowing from Washington “may help the Biden administration move quickly to reinstate national fuel-efficiency standards that would control planet-warming auto pollution”. Meaning what exactly? The issue here isn’t the rhetorical inflation of “carbon pollution” and now “climate pollution” and the tendency of news outlets to beg the question of causality. It’s the question who thinks reducing American car emissions would “control” this “pollution” sufficiently to have an impact on “planet-warming”. And the surprising answer is: Nobody except very ill-informed journalists, politicians and other zealots.
No really. You might think with everyone gaga about the Paris Agreement and Joe Biden rejoining it without all that tedious mucking about with Senate approval of treaties, the scientists who say would be claiming Paris would stop the dreaded warming. But they’re not. They’re also not saying a minor increase in American automobile fuel efficiency would get the United States to Paris. Or that, if the United States went there, the world would.
So unless Biden intends by imperial fiat to require American-made, or -bought, cars to emit 60% less, the measure won’t “control” emissions in a meaningful way. Strike 1. Even if he did, and it worked, which are by no means the same thing, and if they were part of a package of measures that got the United States to its Paris targets and kept it there, it wouldn’t make other nations do it including whatever that big one with the coal plants and nuclear weapons is. Strike 2. And even if it did, according to the alarmists’ own models, everyone meeting their Paris targets would reduce warming in 2100 by about 0.1 degrees, a mere rounding error. Strike 3.
If “Climate Fwd.” is deliberately using language that makes an ineffective measure sound effective, Strike 4. Especially as if you believe there’s a climate crisis, the last thing you want is fake solutions. Strike 5. Of course “Climate Fwd.” like the IPCC depends for its livelihood on there being a crisis, and if they were being cynical it would be Strike 6. Instead they’re probably just as confused as they sound. Strike 7. Which seems like a lot but they’re not out.
I am old enough to remember Amos and Andy, the Honeymooners and Red Skelton. I thought they were funny but would they get a laugh today or be hauled off to court?
‘Republicans vote on Tuesday, Democrats vote on Wednesday, is this a crime now?
There’s a reason the Soviet Union, East Germany, China and North Korea never produced a Jerry Seinfeld – much less a Lenny Bruce or Sam Kinison.
Humor was a crime in those places.
America is becoming such a place – because the Left doesn’t think it’s funny to mock anything the Left considers serious – and intends to make sure that message gets out.
As in the case of Douglass Mackey – a wise-acre who faces ten years in federal prison for posting unfunny (to the feds, now the sic ‘em troops of the Left) memes designed to annoy Leftists, including supporters of Hillary Clinton.
Mackey created an African Americans for Hillarymock-up that encouraged people to “avoid the line” and “vote from home” by texting “Hillary” to “599925.” When they did, they got a reply from the actual Clinton campaign hipping them to the fact that they’d been punked.
Whether this is funny or obnoxious depends on your sense of humor; but is it criminal? Deserving of a decade behind bars?
The feds say yes.
Mackey has been charged with serious felonies, as in conspiring to “injure, oppress, threaten and intimidate persons in the free exercise of a right and privilege secured to them by the Constitution” – notwithstanding the obvious fact that no threat was leveled at anyone, nor was anyone oppressed – except perhaps according to the Leftist definition of “oppression,” which amounts to having their feelings hurt.
This is becoming an actionable offense in Joe Biden’s Woke America.
“The defendant exploited a social media platform to infringe one of the most basic and sacred rights guaranteed by the Constitution: the right to vote,” said Nicholas L. McQuaid, acting assistant attorney general of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
Except he did no such thing. He made and published a visual. No one was prevented from voting or threatened if they did.
Mackey’s memes – he made several others – are the Internet era’s equivalent of the prank phone call, perhaps. Good thing the Jerky Boys are retired.
It’s the filling out of magazine subscription cards and the ordering of a dozen pizzas or late-night taxis, sent to the home of a person who who didn’t order them, as a gag.
Actually, they are not even that as no one got the bill for anything – or got something they didn’t want delivered to their home.
They saw a meme on their Twitter or Facebook feed.
This constitutes “depriving individuals of their constitutional right to vote”?
So says the indictment.
One could make a stronger case that weaponized hysteria over “the virus” did more to actually deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote” – by terrorizing them to not vote, something Mackey never did.
But don’t expect Fauci or the Scarf Lady to be indicted.
Once upon a time, humor was not only funny – it made you think. George Carlin, for instance. His most famous rant had to do with who owns you – and what these owners want, which is – as Carlin put it –obedient workers. People who don’t question and who are kept from asking questions about their owners by being kept ignorant and busy working constantly to just barely keep their heads above water.
This sort of comedic analysis resonated with the Left, once upon a time – when the Left at least pretended to be concerned about the plight of the working man.
As opposed to the endlessly offended feelings of the woking man.
If it’s okay to say man.
Comedians like Sam Kineson were famous for saying it – part of Sam’s iconic stand-up act. One of his most unwoke routines revolved around starvation in Africa and the Left’s efforts to ameliorate it by sending food. Sam would pace the stage and then scream: “It’s a desert! Nothing grows there!! Just sand! Move to where the food is!“
It was as hilarious as it is unspeakable . . . today.
Lenny Bruce – who was considered a liberal in his day – would be prosecuted by the Left today.
Bruce actually was prosecuted – for “obscenity” – and was defended by the Left. But that was 1964 and the Left defended free speech back then. Today, free speech, including speech that makes you laugh, is actionable, if the punchline involves gays or women or men who “identify” as women; anything the Left decides isn’t funny.
If the punchline is Donald Trump – or the meme his severed head,a la Kathy Griffin – then it’s hilarious.
Which isn’t very funny.
Which brings up Seinfeld, who is – very.
Or rather, was. Jerry no longer does stand-up because the crowds are too Woke. They can’t take a joke and – worse – can’t laugh at themselves anymore.
‘Things are getting a little weird over in Europe with the Norwegian Nobel Committee that decides on who gets the Peace Prize every year. Yeah, the prize became a completely joke when it was given to Barack Obama for doing absolutely nothing. It wasn’t clear whether the bar would be kept that low forever but it looks like we’ve got our answer here in the Year of Our Weirdness, 2021. We should have known that The Lightbringer’s taint wouldn’t be that easy to wash away.
It started to get ridiculous last week when Black Lives Matter was brought into the faux Peace Prize lunacy, which Matt wrote about:
You read that correctly. I assure you this is not a satire piece from the Babylon Bee… except it was… last year.
In August of last year, the Babylon Bee published a prophetic article titled, “BLM Rioters Awarded Nobel Peace Prize.” It was hilarious. We laughed. How absurd! Obviously, it was too absurd to be taken seriously.
Except now it’s come true. For real. No joke.
And it’s no longer funny.
The Black Lives Matter movement, which is quite literally responsible for dozens of deaths and billions in property damage, has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
It really can’t be funny anymore once it becomes true.
The Black Lives Matter movement was nominated by Norwegian MP Petter Eide, who credits the movement with forcing countries outside of the United States to address racism within their own societies. Or something.
A boy is a boy and a girl is a girl! A male is a male and a female is a female! Now, you know I am smart but I am not politically correct and neither is a Christian organization that mentioned Rachel Levine really being born a male! All I can say when I look at his/her photo is that he/she is ugly!
‘A Christian organization has been suspended from the Twitter social media platform for stating Dr. Rachel Levine’s, assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), biological sex.
In recent weeks tech giants like Twitter, Facebook, and Google have been censuring mostly conservative voices on social media platforms, including former President Donald Trump and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell.
In Victoria, Australia the China virus has brought out into the open the real Leftist leaning Labor government. The Labor government in Victoria has gone China virus mad with its lockdowns and foolish rules. These lockdowns and rules have been made, believe it or not, according to Premier Daniel Andrews by using a super computer, the virus data, and science. Now, it must be understood that the rules only apply to those who are not participating in the BLM protests or are a member of an Afghan family. Otherwise you are under the most China virus strict rules in the Western world. ‘Every single day we’re hearing stories of law-abiding citizens — families, really — who are being ticketed and fined by overzealous police and bylaw officers.
We’re not talking about the rambunctious house parties that fly in the face of social distancing and make a mockery of us all.
No — we’re talking about people who are being fined for going out for a walk without a face mask, people who go out shopping with more than one family member, people who are just going to work, and even people who are more than 5 KM outside their homes.
We’re sick and tired of this! So, we’re going to fight back in court.
We are going to crowdfund a lawyer for Australians who want to fight their outrageous tickets.
‘I don’t know if you see this above sign in your area, but it’s everywhere in coastal cities of the Western United States. In Berkeley and adjacent cities, it’s been at about every house or yard for a few years. Here in Oregon, I saw one on our street in our neighborhood too. I picked this version as an example, because the one I saw started with “Science Is Real.” They’re called “Values Signs,” to promote so-called leftist “values.” The list is a mixed bag of bromides that read like a religious creed, starting with “we believe.” Leftists treat it like a creed, including a punishment or shunning of those who violate the precepts. An irony of “we believe science is real” is how science has anything to do with belief. If it is real, you know it, not believe it, don’t you? So, in essence the values sign is a doctrinal statement like a church would produce.
The consequences for breaking these decrees are severe in present society. They say, to them kindness is everything. No way. These are some of the most bitter, angry, unkind people I’ve ever met, and it’s been very consistent. I’ve never met people who are so unfriendly, distant, and irritated. Rarely do people with this sign in their yard show kindness. They are plain mean in almost every instance. They are “kind” only if you accept all their list with their definitions with exuberance. What I’m saying is that these are ultimate hypocrites with their standards like the Pharisees of Jesus’ day.
Through the sign, its proponents proclaim their own kindness, their own righteousness in essence, that they “believe” all these things, and I’ve never seen the righteousness lived or the beliefs followed. The sign acts as “virtue signaling,” a modern way to stand on the street corner and beat on their chest to be seen of others. It also functions at accosting the people reading it, their chosen targets of these epithets. It warns away those who disagree that they are not welcome. Stay away. Don’t talk to me.
I can’t cover every point in one post, but they say, science is real. The postmodernism that buttresses the left doesn’t rely on science. According to postmodernism, which includes critical theory, science arrives at its conclusions through the social forces of power and oppression. The left doesn’t care about science. It disregards biological sex, except when it’s convenient. It ignores the evidence of life in the mother’s womb, seen through the ultrasound and surgery on the unborn baby in the uterus. It avoids the fossil record with its evidence of kinds and no transitional forms. It promotes psychological theories like they are science, which are overturned multiple times in a matter of years. If the scientific definition of a pandemic is 1-3 percent deaths in the country, Covid-19 isn’t a pandemic with its .06% deaths, even counting every death with the virus, not because of the virus alone. According to the CDC, only 6% of Covid-19 deaths don’t involve comorbidities, that is, other causes besides Covid-19.
A couple of weeks ago, I spoke to an atheist at his stamp shop, who said he was scientific, so he couldn’t believe the Bible. Among other points in that conversation, I advocated Adam Smith and his Wealth of Nations as science, and he scoffed that economics wasn’t a science, even though economics uses the scientific method to explain economic behavior. The Bible makes economic statements as fact, such as “the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7). This is economic and this is science. Sure, science is real, but not the so-called science of the virtue signaler. When he says “science is real,” he means that God and the Bible are not.
Do black lives matter? Yes. I haven’t heard of a poll that asked Americans if black lives mattered to them, but I’m guessing that if that poll were done, it would be something close to 99% plus of white Americans would say, “Yes, black lives matter.” All black lives matter, not just the ones killed by white police officers. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the three words, black lives matter, mean that black lives matter. BLM is just a political tool. It’s not saving black lives. It’s killing black lives faster than if it did not exist. And that is scientific, if science were real. But again, they’re not interested in actual science.
They say, no human is illegal, because that is their stand in support of illegal aliens, the legal terminology to refer to a person in the United States who is breaking federal immigration laws. “Illegal” means “unlawful” or “criminal.” The non-United States citizen is a criminal or an illegal. The leftist platitude advocates open borders, the elimination of nations, and general lawlessness. It stands for the destruction of the United States.
Do women possess human rights? Yes. Rights apply to every human being. They come from God. A purpose of government is to protect the rights of human beings. Rights are liberties. Every human being is born with certain rights, that among these are life, liberty, and property. The point of saying that women’s rights are human rights is to eliminate distinctions between men and women. Rather than giving women equal opportunity, the goal of this feminist ideal is equal outcome. It promotes women in positions of authority against natural law. If rights come from God and God requires men in authority, then it isn’t a right for women to be in authority. The leftist adage especially emphasizes a woman’s “reproductive rights,” where she is given the choice to end an unwanted pregnancy with abortion. The man has no say in the life or death of his child.
If sex is a social construct, then isn’t a woman’s right also a violation of human rights? This was the point that J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter author, was attempting to make according to classic feminism, when she was canceled for her insensitivity to transgenders. She made the controversial following statement earlier this year: “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.” I’m just saying that women’s rights can’t be human rights if there is no way to distinguish between men and women.
“Love is love” relates obviously to same-sex marriage. However, again how can there be same sex if sex is a social construct? Love can’t even be love, because love must mean whatever someone wants it to mean. This is the latest iteration of the world for the left’s value sign owner. Can he/she/it even claim the sign as his/her/its property? Sign person didn’t build it. Sign person doesn’t own it. And if it causes me psychological harm, then I’m entitled to destroy it, or at least sue for psychological damages, as a means of saving my life.
A world so lacking in certainty is left to proclaim inane statements like “love is love,” defining a word with the same word. Jerry Seinfeld makes light of this inanity in a comedic bit, when he says:
People like to say those things. “It is what it is.” You see, if you repeat a word twice in a sentence, you can say that with a lot of confidence. “Business is business.” “Rules are rules.” “Deal’s a deal.” “When we go in there, as long as we know what’s what and who’s who, whatever happens, happens, and it is what it is.”
People laugh, but they’re now laughing at themselves. If it’s funny though, then it’s funny, even if it’s you that’s you who’s a joke.
“Kindness is everything” comes from the most intolerant generation in the history of human kind. They invented ghosting their parents. They don’t want to be challenged for anything they say or do. They want total tolerance. This is the “kindness” of which they speak. They don’t mean, be kind to you. They mean being kind to them, tolerating them, is everything.
The Apostle Paul writes that love “is kind,” but he also writes that love “rejoiceth not in iniquity.” John writes in 2 John 1:6, “This is love, that we walk after his commandments.” When 1 Corinthians 13 says, “love is kind,” the Greek word for “kind” is chretos, which occurs seven times in the New Testament. The word pertains to moral goodness and in Romans 2:4, it is translated “goodness,” as in “the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.” True kindness is doing what is absolute best for another person, like God does for us. That would mean rejecting the values of the leftist value sign, which contradicts the goodness of God, the holy, moral nature of the Good God.’https://kentbrandenburg.blogspot.com/
There’s no winning when it comes to seeking to pacify Islam.
‘Zakaria Kioua won a bottle of Cognac in an employee raffle, but the raffle organizers decided to give him chocolates instead, so as to avoid offending his Islamic sensibilities. But he says: “As a human, I should have been asked. They know I do not have problems receiving alcohol.” And now his bosses have to pay him nearly $3,000 for the crime of trying to avoid offending him.
What’s more, “he was offered a replacement bottle of Cognac and told ‘no offence was intended,’” and that still wasn’t good enough. Kioua insists: “They don’t want that prize to be going to me and they’ve used my religion to get what they want.”
So you see how it is in shattered, staggering, dhimmi Britain now: trying to avoid “Islamophobia” is “Islamophobic.” Zakaria Kioua claimed to have been victimized for being a Muslim for being (momentarily and partially) prevented from acting in a non-Islamic manner.
Are you ready to move to Seattle? I know, Seattle has had its problems but now you will find things much better for ‘The city of Seattle has hired a Black Lives Matter activist and convicted ex-pimp to be its “Street Czar,” paying him $12,500 a month for a year to come up with “alternatives to policing.
What are the details?
Andrè Taylor was once sentenced to more than five years in prison for illegally working as an escort hustler in Las Vegas (he ended up only serving one year) and was featured in the 2000 documentary, “American Pimp.” He also came to Seattle in 2016 vowing to “go to war” after his brother, Che Taylor, was killed by police.
When Christians speak of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ they are scoffed at. But when the climate scammers speak that’s lauded as the ‘Biblical’ truth! So, ‘Would you like to know exactly how long we have left to save the earth? If you’re in New York City and happen to be in Union Square, all you have to do is look up at the gigantic “Climate Clock” that’s been installed to commemorate Climate Week.
Seven years and 102 days. That’s exactly how long we have. Not approximately. Not a rough guess. Not even wishful thinking. The clock purports to tell us the number of years, days, hours, and seconds we have left before the Sword of Damocles descends on Mother Earth and snuffs out the human race in a puff of smoke.
What passes for thinking among climate hysterics goes something like this: We only have seven years and change to take action to avoid catastrophic climate change. The clock is based on an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report telling us we have to keep our CO2 footprint under a certain level or we’re all doomed.
The report states that starting from 2018, a carbon dioxide budget of 420 Gt of CO2 gives us a 67% chance to stay under 1.5°C of warming.” The countdown shows, at current rates of emission, how long it will take to burn through the earth’s “carbon budget” or the amount of carbon dioxide that can be released into the atmosphere while keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. “This is our deadline, the time we have left to take decisive action to keep warming under the 1.5°C threshold” the founders of Climate Clock state.
I’m sure the scientists making that prediction can trot out their calculations and graphs, and present learned papers on how they arrived at their conclusions.
I’m also sure they’re full of it.
If the earth’s atmosphere was a chart or a graph, they’d have it down cold. Unfortunately for their “predictions,” the atmosphere is slightly more dynamic than a piece of paper. It’s a living, breathing, churning, roiling thing affected by thousands of factors that no supercomputer or scientific genius could possibly account for.
To have the unmitigated arrogance to pretend to know how long we have left — or that such a thing can even be measured — is breathtaking.
Other interim predictions on warming have been nowhere near accurate, although they are accurate enough for models. Unfortunately, the world economy is not a model. And to propose siphoning $30 trillion in the next 20 years out of the economies of the West to deal with the problem of climate change doesn’t track. There must be some other reason to impoverish Western industrialized democracies. Could it be — dare I say — political?
Politicizing science is not new, and despite what they want you to think, scientists are not above serving a political agenda. But the absurdity of “predicting” anything so complex, so fraught with uncertainty and based almost exclusively on predictive modeling, makes their playing at politics dangerous to life and liberty.
What’s more, this isn’t the only Climate Clock that could be built.
Another slightly less aggressive benchmark from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that human-caused greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced 45% from 2010 levels by 2030 — nine years away — to give the Earth a 50% chance of not exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming.
This is the benchmark famously invoked by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2019 when she said “the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change” — a quote which right-wing politicians and media pounced on.
In Australia the Leftist, Loony, save the earth politician and bureaucrat seems to be running the show for almost everything. For instance ‘The Federal Coalition’s ‘plan’ to power Australia with gas-fired power plants it has yet to build, with gas supplies it does not have sounds more like palliative care than a cure for its self-inflicted power pricing and supply calamity.
Having wrecked our once reliable grid by subsidising chaotically intermittent wind and solar, it seems it’s time to resuscitate the hopes of dispatchable power plants. It’s a bit like choking the patient, and then putting them on a ventilator.
The junior Coalition partner, the Nationals – who remain a force to be reckoned with in regional NSW and Queensland, where numerous coal mines and coal-fired power plants still operate – are less than amused that PM, Scott Morrison and Energy Minister, Angus Taylor are talking up a future for gas-fired plants, when the country has been scrounging for gas for domestic purposes over the last decade – thanks to the several States that have banned the exploitation of gas and even exploration for it.
Assuming the Feds can find the gas and get the States to allow them to get it out of ground, it won’t be fuelling efficient Combined Cycle Gas Turbines. Instead, it will be chewed up by a few new Open Cycle Gas Turbines (fast-start ‘peakers’) and dozens of Wartsila 50DF reciprocating engines with a capacity of 18MW each (see above).
The key benefits of using what are giant ship engines, is that they can run on either gas, diesel or bunker fuel – and be fired up to reach their peak load within about five minutes. Ideal for responding to routine wind and solar power output collapses of the kind that have plagued South Australia for years, and that now threaten the entire Eastern Grid.
Of course, the only reason Australia has been reduced to importing dozens of Finnish built ship engines is the market chaos that has been delivered by the Federal government’s Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target.
