Many a defeat is the product of a grand delusion; Europe’s obsession with wind and solar is just another example. Beaten by Vlad Putin’s ability to restrict the gas it needs to run fast-start-up gas peaking plants (essential to cover rapid and unpredictable collapses in wind output and rapid and wholly predictable collapses in solar output).
There isn’t any hope of Germany or Britain avoiding an outright energy calamity, this coming winter. Power prices are spiralling out of control, with no end in sight, and electricity and gas rationing are already the new normal. How long the proletariat will stand for it, is another matter.
