The Australian state of Victoria is one of the most liberal states in the nation and ‘From 1 May, Victorians can now change their gender on their birth certificate “without having to undergo invasive and costly sex affirmation surgery”, according to the State Government. Victorians can nominate any sex descriptor they wish (so long as it’s not obscene or offensive) as often as every 12 months. Children under 18 can also change gender through an application submitted by their parents.
